BBQ Chicken Nuggets

BBQ Chicken Nuggets/ Wings

Have a craving for BBQ wings but don't want to spend $30 or more by going out to eat? Then I have a solution for you! 


With the craving for BBQ wings and ranch sauce, but without spending a fortune at AppleBee's or Buffalo Wild Wings, I decided to try it my own way. These were a huge hit with my family, kids, and tasted better than going out to a restaurant for wings. 


Ingredients
Boneless Chicken Thighs or Wings
BBQ Sauce of your choice
Shore Lunch Original Recipe Batter (that is originally made to use with fish)
Oil
Ranch (If you like your BBQ Chicken with a ranch sauce)
Celery (Optional)

Directions
1. Heat up the oil in either a deep fryer or a stove top fryer
2. (If you are using chicken thighs) Cut up the chicken thighs into 1 inch wide pieces
3. Pour the box of Shore Lunch into either a bowl that has a cover or a one gallon bag. Toss the chicken in with the Shore Lunch until fully coated. 
4. Drop the chicken slowly into the fryer and keep an eye on them until they are brown and crispy. Remember that if you cook them too long that they will because dry. 
5. Once fully cooked, place on a paper towel to let the excess oil to drip off. 
6. In a bowl, toss the strips with BBQ sauce and serve alone, with a ranch or blue cheese sauce.

Moisturizers You Need In Your Life


If you get hideously dry skin in the winter months like I do, then you need the moisturizers in your life! I am someone that can not go to bed without moisturizers all over me and even though I typically have oily combination skin, Northern Minnesota weather dries me out.

Here are my recommendations:

For your body- I recommend using Aveeno Baby Daily Moisture Lotion because it will leave your skin silky soft without feeling oily. Not only do I use this on my legs, arms, and stomach, I also use it on my hands after I've just washed. I have found that the best time to apply is when you first get out of the shower or bath. Your skin will drink in this lotion and a little goes a long ways. As a bonus, I double and use it on my little girls. This is the first lotion that I have fully finished and haven't switched out for something different. It's amazing and makes me want to try more Aveeno products.

For your lips and feet- I recommend using Aquaphor because it really breaks down rough skin and makes it soft. By using this on your feet, you won't be afraid to cuddle up next to your significant other and not have them get scratched by your rough feet. In addition, I use this product on my lips and has become my go-to lip moisturizer. Once again, I use Aquaphor on my girls to help when they have a butt rash.

For your face- If you have normal skin that isn't sensitive to fragrance, from the drug store I recommend using one of Olay's moisturizers such as the Hydrating Gel Moisturizer, which is part of the Fresh Effects line. Another one from Olay would be the Age Defying Classic Daily Renewal Cream (try the night cream too!). Olay is owned by Procter & Gamble who also owns CoverGirl and with that I highly trust their products since they have been around for a long time.

There is another brand that I recommend and that is L'Oreal Paris who also owns Lancome (I'll get to them soon). They have high quality products for a decent price. From L'Oreal Paris, I recommend their Age Perfect Cell Renewal Day Cream with an SPF 15 (the night cream is also very good).  If you are looking for anti-aging, dark spot correction, etc... L'Oreal offers products for those too.

Want higher end products too? A few of my favorites include Estee Lauder's DayWear and Revitalizing Supreme, but they have so many to choose from. Another one of my favorites comes from Lancome, which as I stated earlier, L'Oreal Paris owns them. Their Bienfait Multi-Vital and Renergie Lift lines are both excellent. As always, it depends on your specific concerns and needs, but these two you can't go wrong with.

If you have sensitive skin that breaks out easily to fragrance, from the drugstore I recommend using products from the Aveeno line. On a side note, I love their facial cleansers and body moisturizers.

As for higher end products, I would recommend the Clinique brand and line of cosmetics. They have a wide range of products to offer for your sensitivity and the ladies at the counter can match you with the right products for you. As for moisturizers, I do recommend the Dramatically Different Lotion + (I use the gel one because I have oilier skin) and the Moisture Surge (once again, I use the Extended Thirst Relief instead of the Intense since I have oily skin). Like I said, if you have other concerns such as wrinkles, fine lines, or dark spots, there are moisturizers and product lines for those too. Those two are my favorites though.

For your eyes- When it comes to putting moisturizer on your eye area, you need to be very careful. Your eye area doesn't have the fat layer that the rest of your skin has and so you need products that are more gentle.

L'Oreal Paris- I recommend their RevitaLift Anti-Wrinkle + Firming Eye Cream which is light weight and can be used both day and night-time.

Lancome- I recommend their Renergie Lift Multi-Action Eye which helps with lifting and firming of the eye area. Other eye products that I recommend from Lancome include the Visionnaire Eye, Genefique Yeux, and the Genefique Eye Light-Pearl. All of these are excellent products and are worth the extra money that you will dish out for them. Here's the thing though, a little goes a really long ways.

Estee Lauder- I recommend using the Advanced Night Repair Eye (here's a little tip- use it on your lips to help with lines around the lip area). The Advanced Night Repair Eye feels amazing on the under eye area and will reduce fine lines, wrinkles, puffiness, dark circles, and more. The next product that I'd recommend would be the Revitalizing Supreme Eye Balm. The eye balm helps your eye area to look brighter and younger. There is also the Advanced Night Repair Eye Serum that you can combine with any eye cream to help with you dark circles, puffiness, etc...

Olay- I recommend using the Fresh Effects:{Bright on Schedule} Eye Awakening Cream because with its roller ball, it will hydrate and help reduce the look of your dark circles and puffiness.

Clinique- I recommend using the All About Eyes Serum (this has a roller ball) combined with the All About Eyes Cream. Both help reduce dark circles and puffiness, but one is instant and the other helps to hydrate. My last favorite from Clinique is the Even Better Eyes Dark Circle Corrector, the tip on this product has a cooling effect too. All three products are amazing!

Moisturizer Products that I want to try out- recently e.l.f. (eyeslipsface) came out with their own line of skincare that I have been wanting to desperately try out. Honestly, I want to try out their whole skincare line that you can get online right now for only $42 here in the United States. I love that they have come out with their own face serum! De-worming Cats

This past October, my husband and I decided to get another cat after we found mice turds all over our kitchen a couple of mornings. We had never had mice before because we had my old cat Tigger around, but sadly he had passed away in May. I didn't realize that the only reason we never had mice was because of Tigger being around (even though he'd never even hurt a fly nonetheless kill a mouse).

Anyways, we brought home another cat from my grandparent's farm and although I knew that I should take him to the vet the get checked out, we just didn't have the money to do so at the time. But these past couple of months, something had been a little off about him. He seemed bloated, had the runs, and even was losing hair on his hind end. I thought maybe it was a flea reaction according to the symptoms that I read online.

I finally took him to the vet; I had to know what was wrong with him once and for all(and to get his rabies shot). He didn't have fleas, mites, or hook worms... they really weren't sure what was wrong. After he got fixed, I noticed that he still had the runs (which was absolutely disgusting to clean up) and it obviously wasn't from the rabies shot that he'd gotten. When I called the vet, they told me that the next step would be to treat him for worms.

There are a few ways to de-worm cats:

1. Pill form; while my husband held him, I put the pill down his throat for him to swallow)

2. A liquid that is absorbed through the skin

I chose the pill form since it was the least expensive option and I'm planning to deworm him every couple of months to stay on top of it. I love my cat and want him to be healthy.

Diaper Bag Must-Haves

If you are a brand new, soon-to-be, or already a mom, it's nice to know exactly what you need to carry in that diaper bag. If you have had children before, then you probably have a list of your own. This list includes everything that I carry in my diaper bag whenever I leave the house with my girls (toddler and infant). For a while, before my youngest was born, I could just throw a diaper in my purse and on the way we went into town. But you can't do that with an infant. 

1. Wipes (I like the sensitive or fragrance free)

2. Powder or butt ointment (Desitan, Butt Paste, etc...)

3. Tylenol (you never know when you are going to need it)

4. Diapers (I love my LUVS, but have been using generic to save a little money)

5. Formula, Breast Milk, or Milk

6. Blanket (I like to pack both a heavy and light one)

7. Water Bottle (to make milk on the go)

8. Extra sets of clothes (socks, if needed)

9. Bottle or Sippy Cup

10. Nook or Pacifier

11. Toy (depending on age)

12. Hand Sanitizer

13. Hat, gloves or sunscreen (depending on the time of year)

14. Facial Tissues or Boogie Wipes (I like the facial tissues with lotion; they are softer on the skin)

15. Diaper changing pad (a blanket works as well)

Shorelunch Pork Chops

Came across this recipe tonight when I decided that I didn't just want to bake our pork chops. Looking through the cupboards, I came across a Shorelunch box that I had bought to use for fish. Then, I decided to fry our pork chops in the Shorelunch and finish them off by baking them for half an hour. This recipe is amazingly simple.

Ingredients
1/2 box of Shorelunch Original Recipe
3 Pork Chops
Oil

Directions
1. Pour oil into pan and heat up
2. Coat both sides of the pork chop with Shorelunch
3. Place gently into frying pan
4. Fry until both sides are golden brown
5. Put into a baking dish
6. Pore water on bottom of baking dish
7. Sprinkle the rest of the Shorelunch, whatever you didn't use, on top of the pork chops and water.
8. Bake at 425 degrees of 1/2 an hour or until fully cooked through

By sprinkling the remaining Shorelunch on top of the pork chops and water, it creates a gravy. This recipe was a HUGE hit with my family and was very quick to make.

Peanut Butter Cup Protein Shake

I discovered this tonight and fell in love with the combo, but seriously, who doesn't like peanut butter and chocolate? Unless of course you are the unfortunate ones who might be allergic.

2 Tablespoons Peanut Butter
1 Scoop Chocolate Protein Powder
Milk
1-1/2 Bananas (for creaminess)

Blend together and enjoy!

Tip: when choosing a protein powder, make sure that the protein grams is more than the sugar grams per scoop. Sugar is carbohydrates...

Chocolate-Banana Soft Serve Ice Cream Using a NutriBullet

Do your kids want ice cream but you don't want them to have all of the sugar and fat grams that go along with having ice cream? Recently, I've come up with a solution to that same situation that I'm having at home with my own child.

For Christmas, my parents got me a NutriBullet, which I have fallen in love with and have been trying out tons of different recipes. Yesterday I accidentally came up with this one.

You will need:
Frozen Bananas (I always buy over ripened bananas for cheap from my local grocery store)
Milk
Hot Chocolate packet (I also switch this out for protein mix too)
Ice Cubes, if you want an extra frozen feel, but I feel like I get enough "frozeness" from the frozen bananas

Blend everything together using your NutriBullet until smooth. For my daughter and I, this combo is amazing and is better than the ice cream you buy in stores! It's all thanks to the NutriBullet too!

Get Fit: Day 3 #Beast

I'M SORE. Period. There is no ifs, ands, or butts about it. I'm just plain sore to the point where I can barely walk and its been a LONG time since I've felt this way. Even though all I want to do is fall onto the couch and sleep, I know that tomorrow, I will come home from work and do another workout. Typically by this point, I'd either given up or say that I'll take a day off... Nope, not this time hunny. I'm working out through the pain, even if I won't be able to get up out of bed in the morning. I know that I'll be much happier and proud of myself if I continue to work through the pain. That's what heat pads and ice are for right?

Nonetheless, I am still drinking my protein shakes twice a day in replace of a meal and watching my carb intake. During my recent pregnancy, I was on the verge of having gestational diabetes and that is not something that I want. So I figured that I have two choices, one: I could eat carbs and risk diabetes, or two: I watch my carb intake and not have to live with diabetes. I don't know about you, but I've chosen option number two. Once you get past eating carbs, you don't crave them anymore but instead find healthier options such as frozen fruit in replace of ice cream. I will admit that when I do eat carbs, I eat a very minimal amount.

I have been doing this so called "healthy living" thing since my daughter was born in November. I have already lost ALL of my pregnancy weight and am working on taking my first daughter's pregnancy weight off now.

You will be amazed at how much better you feel and how much more energy you have when you start exercising and eating healthier. If you want something "unhealthy", have some in moderation and don't go over board OR you can choose a completely different option all entirely.

Get Fit: Day 2 #Beast

Like some, I struggle with my weight and have for many years. This is something that I have fought with for years and I'm finally doing something about it. Since I am done having children, I figured that there was no better time than now to put my dream of being fit into action. During my high school years, I struggled with anorexia and believed that I always had to be on a "diet". After having my daughters, I decided that I wanted to feel comfortable in my own skin and so I'm doing something about it.

My husband has been "coaching" me on what I should be doing to lose my baby weight and more. I trust his advice because he was in the military and obviously they know what it means to be fit.

I have found that the best way to get motivated to work out or eat healthy is by finding quotes on Pinterest and by following fitness trainers on Twitter and obsessed fitness goers on Instagram. The realization that I can have what I want if I don't give up gives me the motivation that I need to keep going on this journey. I started getting fit a couple of weeks ago, but have been suffering from a head cold that just won't go away.

Since I was sick, I basically had to start over...

I don't have a gym membership or expensive fitness equipment at home, but I do have a basic elliptical that has programs that give you an amazing workout.

I have been drinking two protein drinks per day and, honestly, I look forward to them! I mix my morning one with coffee and I drink it while dropping my girls off at daycare and on my drive to work. Since I have an infant and a toddler, I don't have much time in the morning to get in as big meal but I find that the drinks are quick to make with the use of my NutriBullet (which by the way, I LOVE).

Tonight when I got on the elliptical, I could barely move because I'm still super sore from yesterday. My abs included. I've decided that since school lets out an hour early tomorrow, I'm going to hit the school weight room and get some lifting in.

Protein Drink Recipes

Mocha
1 part Coffee (cold)
1 part Milk
1 scoop chocolate protein powder
Ice
If you don't have chocolate protein powder, use vanilla and add a hot chocolate packet instead. Tastes just as great! 

Peanut Butter and Banana
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
Peanut Butter (as much as you want)
1 banana
Milk or water for liquid

Fruity Chocolate Smoothie
1 scoop chocolate protein powder
1 1/2 - 2 cups frozen fruit (I like to buy Great Value fruit mix)
Water for liquid
I've also done shakes where I used vanilla protein powder instead of chocolate and added a half packet of hot chocolate mix.

I used EAS protein powder ($9.88) that I purchase from Wal-Mart; it comes in chocolate and vanilla. This brand has awesome reviews on Wal-mart.com, the EAS website, and Amazon.com. I'm really impressed with the taste and overall consistency of the product. Plus, it has 20 grams of protein and who doesn't love to feel full? I've tried other brands, but I keep coming back to this one.

Firmoo.com Review

I won a pair of Firmoo glasses from Emmajane Farrel that writes for http://www.hailandharmony.blogspot.ie/. I ordered my glasses on December 29th, 2014 and I just received in the mail today the glasses themselves. The ordering experience with Firmoo.com was very simple and easy to use. I was impressed with it. But because the glasses are shipped from China, it took a long time to finally get them. I should mention that I did do standard shipping. All in all, I would rate them a 9 out of 10 and that's only because I got impatient waiting for them to arrive in my mailbox. The glasses fit good, might need a little tune up from my eye doctor, but the shape, prescription, and overall look of them are very good.

Peanut Butter Kix Bars

Ingredients
1-1/2 bags marshmallows
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1/4 cup peanut butter
6 cups Kix cereal

Directions
1. In a large pan, melt the marshmallows, butter, and peanut butter.
2. Once the mixture is melted together, add in the cereal and stir until the cereal is well coated.
3. Spray a large cake pan with cooking spray.
4. Pour in the cereal mixture and press down until the cereal is even throughout the pan.
5. Eat and enjoy!

This was a huge hit with my family and reminded us of peanut butter crunch.
